Steve Turner was the first “presenter” in 2004 when the Modoc Forum held a special workshop on copyright law and contract language. It was the success of this workshop that inspired Ray and Barbara March to hold the annual Surprise Valley Writer’s Conference, beginning in 2007.

The scholarship seeks to honor Steve as a writer and a longtime advocate for writers’ rights. The recipient will be chosen on the basis of his or her work, financial need, and whether they share Steve’s long term writing interest in rural economy and labor. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Ray A. March to discuss their eligibility (use the Email us link at the top of the page).

The mission of the Modoc Forum is to perpetuate an understanding and appreciation of the natural and agricultural landscape of Modoc County, the Great Basin, and the rural west through literature, the arts, community education, and programs.

Contributions to the Steve Turner Scholarship may be made by check to the Modoc Forum, P.O. Box 126, Cedarville, CA 96104, and should include a notation designating the tax deductible gift for the Steve Turner Scholarship Fund. The Modoc Forum is a 501 c 3 nonprofit corporation.
